UP Celebrates The Roots of Gospel Music

UP was on-hand at the seventh annual "Evolution of Gospel" celebration at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The annual event commemorated the month of September as Gospel Music Heritage Month (GMHM) and featured inspiration, foot-stomping performances and special tributes.

This year’s honorees included: civil right leader and founder of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., Grammy® Award-winning singer and pastor Shirley Caesar, and the late Andraé Crouch, who was known as “the father of modern gospel music”, and is credited with bridging the worlds of church and mainstream music for over 50 years.
